2.73 hours at sea

The lifeboat crew was paged following multiple reports of a red distress flare sighting in the Dysart area.

The lifeboat undertook a nearshore search between Kinghorn and West Wemyss, and back to Dysart harbour. Coastguard Rescue Teams from Kinghorn, Leven, and St Andrews completed shoreline searches. Nothing was found, and it was concluded that the flare had been fired from the shore, or slightly inland.

It is highlighted that the firing of red distress flares is illegal, when no distress situation exists.
